The pine forests in Garhwal gave me a visual kick during my first visit in 2006. The special patterns of the bark and the high logs with their crowns of long needles stayed as one of my strongest memories from that time. I dreamed of coming back to a particular spot in the forest and watch the light changing the image from early morning to evening time.
It is not easy to know why some places turns out to be more important that others. Considering all kinds of spectacular historic values that may be present in many places that I have visited in India, this forest in Jarmola moves me deeply. Sometimes I think it is because the place reminds me of my origin, in the same way as the nordic coniferous forests does.
